wbar refresh issue
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:25:05 AM »
When a window overlapping wbar is moved up, wbar background area is not updated and part of moved window is left there:

Taken on 2.4, Xvesa.

Known feature, comes from the light approach to a panel. It only takes a shot at startup, saving considerable resources compared to, say, aterm fake transparency, or real composite transparency, which would be even heavier and depend on Xorg.

Right-click on wbar, or select "restart wbar" from the menu.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

It is in the FAQ!  http://www.tinycorelinux.com/faq.html#wbar

Yes, it is there. For me the key point wasn't how to refresh but the reason of the behavior (feature or bug  :) ) what curage answered.

Remove? What would you like on the background of it instead? A solid color?

Yes, something that does not cause problems.
I'm not a fan of transparency, but i think fake trasparency is most annoying than anything.

It is transparent so you can have a background image.

If it was a solid color, it would cover the background image.

Maybe there could be a script to automatically restart Wbar every 5 seconds or so?  So if it bugs you, you can have this script running that will clear up the problem within a few seconds?

I think that would use computer resources unnecessarily.

Keep in mind, it is only a cosmetic issue, everything works ok, and it can be restarted manually.

Guy: yes, I probably should have said it would be a user-level customization to set up such a script.  I would not advocate to add it to TC base. -ML

Also, you can specify transparentness in .wbar - play around with -falfa and -balfa. type wbar -help.

Even with -balfa at 100, there are still the ugly edges around it (see screenshot attachment - must be logged in to see attachments). No matter what you do wbar is always aesthetically lacking!

BTW how do you display a screenshot right in the msg rather than an attachment? Does it have to be hosted somewhere else then you use ?
