Kernel Update
« on: March 31, 2009, 12:26:09 AM »
I have seen mentions of a kernel update but lack the time to research it so I ask.

1.  Will, for instance. my v4l2....  cease to function and what else might?

2. Should I be planning to update or is it being handled otherwise?

3.  What is the best estimate of the time frame?

Thanks all,
-SG

1. They will keep working with the versions of TC before the update.

2. For things that were/are in the vanilla kernel, I hope to get them all updated right with the rest. For things outside, they will be the responsibility of the extension maintainers to update.

3. No official timeframe, "it's done when it's done". Don't expect it this week though.

Are you guys planning on updating the kernel with the release of Tiny Core v5.0? There has been many stable kernel releases since the release of 3.0.21 which was back in early 2011. Been reading up on this for a few hours and just yesterday they released 3.8.1 which is suppose to be stable. I know this is a very old thread, but it would be nice to get some info on this whenever you guys have a chance. Thanks.

Yes, we update kernels with major versions. Note that 3.0.21 came out in Feb 2012, not 2011.

So the timeline diagram on Kernel.org is not accurate. That is where i found the date for the 3.0.21 kernel. Well, it would be nice to see what you guys are changing when we see the new kernel for Tiny Core v5.0. Thanks again.
