Perhaps the easiest thing is to try the wifi extension and hope the error message tells us what hardware you have.

You need to download the following:

..and for each of the extensions listed, download the following:

Like before, copy the contents of the usb stick to your machine and, from the directory you copied them to, issue these commands:

sudo wifi.sh (this probably will not work)
dmesg | tail -20 (the error message should hopefully identify your hardware)

Does your laptop boot Windows?
Open  "Device Manager".
Expand the  "Network adapters"  section.
Copy the descriptions of all listed network adapters.
Copy the full descriptions, not just the parts you feel are important.

"Network adapters"  should only list one or maybe two devices.
If you see more than that, click View and uncheck  "Show hidden devices".
