Systems infrastructures (current role over and global climate)
« on: January 15, 2021, 06:25:31 AM »
Hello F,

Reality  i see in the news is many many e-commerce systems and city infrastructures
are toppling.

This isn't a surprise.

Forum, i can tell you  that.......... "systems" and computers Fail.

There are pro-lific examples....... such as 20 million German bank cards failing to operate  due to millenium bug.  That was just one example of oceans and oceans and oceans of related global  e-commerce failures.

.........any systems specialists will tell you.

TRy to make things better..........for better in place of worse. (for everybody)

thx

i want the opposite. please make more brittle stuff as fast as you can.
i want a bigger failure so people come to their senses, before it's too late.

Hiro,

sadly those bigger failures happen too....with many lives lost.....

........3 jet planes crashes.....(yet another 737 crash last week)

.........but the first 2 crashes resulted in the grounding of ........496.........737 max jet planes.......... for 14 months.
(all planes less than 4 years old.....)

They were grounded due to bad "MCAS" software...... and "CPU hardware faults" within the flight decks...

Grounding for ..................14 months.................................costing around  15 billion US dollars

The factory's halted production of the 737 Max plane model for  ONE YEAR...........totalling another cyclical cost of around 25 billion dollars.

Total costs..........40 billion dollars.

How bad do you want it to get?

it seems people haven't learned yet, as they just allowed boeing to bribe themselves out of this situation: "Boeing agrees to pay $2.5 billion to settle charges it defrauded FAA on 737 Max"

seems it must get much worse for anything to change.

i'm as much in disbelief as you are.

engineers, scientists, managers, all have lost their integrity there.

every kid should know that there should be 3 redundant sensors, and that the software obviously should use all 3.

now they just sent more money instead of fixing the issue immediately.

the solution was obvious all along. and yet it has not been done.

Hiro  + Forum,

Thanks for replying.

.....so complex...........while the compounded issues that carry over into real life are immeasurably worse.

.....we should have basic integrity for the "truth" however damming it is.

.....it's not's like they weren't safe when grounded....the plane(s)  ...........but while also complex (reasoning) & (insurance) is involved......

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

......yes, the MCAS only was reading from 2 sensors ........they both failed......(so reported)

but see my comment above........"compounded Sir".........

........do you have any idea the problems that leaving ..........496 planes.......stopped on the ground  can create....?
(it's inconceivable).........they are designed to be in the air.....until retirement..........

In design, we should look to "natural phenomena" for safety mechanisms  ............the MCAS design was flawed.
(  There are "truth" tables in design.......it's a large subject........)

N

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(there was also an extra auxiliary issue ..... CPU chips in the flight deck .....(an  article  i was reading).

Simulating "scenarios"  were tested on the CPU computers,  there were scenarios that didn't hold true.......simple testing simulations were put into them......... these tests "stunted" the correct operations of that said hardware.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Such calamity's of which we speak........affect the whole of life..........

......i throw in my 2 cents worth...........Reality Sir,

...........bearing in mind my original post may be microcosms of relevant .........i still know that the topic affects lives.......

I hear a "heart attack territory" coming on...........at the Responsibility's  answerable to...... (Later........)

................O___o............

................O___o.............

thx

you say there were 2 sensors. no, only one sensor got used.
the only way to use the other sensor was to land the plane and reboot it. then the other sensor would be selected.

totally bizarre,

the planes have 2 (angle of attack) sensors....but MCAS only uses  one of them
......not both.

(why are both there?)

why did it not have 3 (angle of attack) sensors and use all 3.....? , .......(all redundancy systems  have 3....)

all other systems can use all sensors redundantly during flight.
as this mcas software was an afterthought, and clearly done separately, it is not integrated at all into the overall rather intricate redundancy design scheme.
for mcas they side-stepped the usual development process and replaced it with something cheaper.
they have been allowed to just continue operating with this system for now, which is beyond my capacity to properly imagine.
