Firefox works on WiFi !

Very encouraging !

Guess I best read the book.

Can I put all of this onto my Hard disc ?

I'd hate to lose it !

 :) :) :)

Of course Firefox can work on wifi :)

Here you go: http://tinycorelinux.net/book.html, grab a coffee and enjoy. It's a nice overview and will make a lot of these issues much easier to understand.

Of course, most users don't want to re-download and setup every boot...it's explained in the book.

I found on page 9 Backup and Restore in the control panel, tried that and a window opened up, which needed info, but lost so as to what I had to type in.

On page 12 was an install in 5 steps, but looking for a way of invoking that.

Hopefully I'll find a starting point....

Many thanks for responding....

got tc-install working , but what shows up is rather different to what I could select from booting from the CD.    I preferred the 3rd version from the bottom which included +WiFi +Firmware...

still haven't got a working method of saving Firefox onto the Hard Disc....

If you want wifi and firmware, install them using Apps.
For Firefox, use Apps as you were instructed previously.
It sounds like you still have not read the book.

 :) :) :)

Its understanding the book, (me being Dim is the problem),  Tiny Cloud is Brilliant !

I finally got Control Panel / Backup to work !

I'm absolutely delighted with the results !

As long as I remember to use Backup, I've got a very serious computer resurrected from the scrap heap !

Many I thank the many members who have given me enough confidence to persist and achieve the goal 1

Very greatly appreciated !

 :) :) :)

When you want to shut the computer down, click on the  Exit  icon which is all the way on the left. The default is already
set to backup when shutting down.

Hello to everyone!

I'm new to this forum and tiny core as well.

I tried to install Arduino IDE 1.8.2 (linux32) on TCL 7.2 . From command line ./arduino launch the IDE correctly and i able to upload sketches but it's not to elegant. I would like to start it from wbar as the other extensions. I have googled and tried much things, but now i'm out of ideas.
Without xdg-utils the install.sh script says:
Code: [Select]
adding desktop shortcut and menu item for arduino ide..... done . But nothing happens!
With xdg-utils the install.sh script complaining about mime-type:
Code: (bash) [Select]
No writable system mimetype directory found.
Any instruction, links are welcome!

Hi vereslaca

the wiki describes what's needed for extensions to have menu / wbar icons.
http://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/wiki:creating_extensions
Alternatively, you could extract extensions that do have these icons and have a look to see how it's done.

I think  xdg-utils  uses these directories which you may need to create first, in order for  install.sh  to correctly store new mime types.
~/.local/share/applications
~/.local/share/mime
I doubt though, that the  install.sh  script could create menu entries as they are used in TC.
Download a copy and keep it handy: Core book ;)

Hi Misalf,

Thanx for the link. I will check it.
These folders are already exist but Xdg-utils try to install files to
root/.local/share/applications
root/.local/share/mime
I have created these folders, set permissions of mime folder and now, i have arduinoide in my applications list.
Thank you!

Hi vereslaca,

It's been a while since I've done anything with the Arduino on Tiny Core but the one thing that is forever burned into my memory is to load the bash extension.  I got errors when trying to compile sketches without it and the error messages were not particularly helpful in tracking down the issue.
