xxxterm web Browser
« on: November 14, 2014, 01:23:05 PM »
THis browser is very impressive.

Amazing performance on dinasaur hardware. Outstripping all others.

It seems pretty solid too. It seems to support most things and websites
and conventions (i gave it a default conf file downloaded off the web and it seems fine)

i love the idea of this browser. To give similar power as firefox or chrome but be really
stripped down and lean.

It is 250 times smaller than chrome

It seems to run on a shoestring of ram and hardware.

there is also a free win32 build of "Xombrero"  and it think this browser could be the best
performing browser ever on win32 dinasaur machines.  EVen better than K-meleon.
256 ram

A nice find....... i had ever seen this browser before.

its new name for this browser is  "Xombrero"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xombrero

it seems like a great great web browser. Very powerful and fast but lean.

Are you sure? chromium in repo is 44M, with all dependencies 55M.

Xombrero is a GTK3 application using webkit. With all required dependencies it is close to chromium size.

i really like it's performance on very old hardware.

ye...really though it was the performance aspect

i mean 20 tabs going on 256 of ram.....it manages that....and it's fast and lean
and loads all regular stuff and Adobe etc.  Great find for your old laptop.

Chromium?....2 tabs max ......and slugg like performance here

yes. Thanks for xxxterm.

One of the many many great features it has is the "low contrast mode" by a simple
press of the "s" key.  Not seen that before.

it was interesting to read about the guy that wrote "Xxxterm".

He invented the world wide web along with the Team that was headed by
Tim Berners Lee in 1990.

The team then needed a tool to navigate their
new invention called the "world wide web" network.

So they wrote a web browser tool and
simply called it "world wide web" browser.
They gave it out free.
It was the first ever gui web browser.

Later that web browser was renamed "Nexus" web browser, this avoided confusion with the core invention the team had made, which was the invention of the "world wide web" network at CERN.

New browsers then arrived thick and fast..... such as Mosaic etc.

New browsers started to arrive on more wide spread operating systems, where-as the "world wide web" browser had just been on the NextStep operating system in CERN........  the team worked at CERN.

Today, 23 years later, there are thousands of web browsers.

"XXXterm" is his new browser (started 2010), 20 years after he worked on whats mentioned above. He's a pretty important person.
