The screen is so bright that it hurts my eyes, it is impossible for me to work.

Could you help me get over it?

Your "output" might be another display. I think it's "default" on Xvesa.

The effect of the command "xrandr --output LVDS1 --brightness 0.5" on the screen was that my eyes had begun hurting anew.

What the "e17/8/9 DE" means, even Google don't understand.

Yes, certainly.

"/" is slash, the inverse of the "\" backslash.

/ indicates root in linux file system.

"e17/8/9 DE" means an application, somewhere, possibly.

jls_legalize was talking about the enlightenment Desktop Environment version 17, 18 and 19. Also referred to as E17, E18 etc.
However, I think, at least for TinyCore x86, there no working version in the repo.

I'd like to thank your, but neither inefficient xrandr nor missing eDE solve my HP G62 laptop brightness annoyance.

Otherwise Tiny Core, Hungarian "kis mag", Latin "parvum semen" appeal to me very much.

Yo did not provide any details, like is it a desktop monitor, notebook, make, type, how does it behave with Windoes, other distros, etc. How do you expect a solution?

HP G62 laptop.

I am currently using Puppy Linux, with installed Redshift.

The laptop 'f2' and 'f3's, turning down and up the light, ineffective keys in Tiny Core, an excess of light hurts my eyes, so I couldn't tweak it.

I have read DistroWatch Weekly, Issue 295, 23 March 2009 interview with Robert Shingledecker, liked it.

For me the Fn keys (incl. brightness) work on my netbook (except volume).
Maybe try  Xorg-7.7.tcz  (in case you're on Xvesa currently) and/or  laptop-mode-tools.tcz  on-boot plus the  laptop  boot code.
