Frugal ways to web surf

Hello there,

Please could you tell me the most "data efficient" way to web surf?

Currently i have seen some clever tricks on win32 such as "fastun" and

"slimbrowse" which lower your data usage over cell networks and mobile web
browsing.

Those would work on a TCL browser right?  (say links text browser through those
data saving things like "slimbrowse"

What's the most "data efficient" image file format please?  (typically existing on the world wide web?)
