Java

Hello, i see the TCL repository has a "cloned" version of Sun's Java.

That seems pretty neat and i just have one question.

Wiki says that the Java clone does *not* contain the "web plugin".

When i use the genuine Sun Java on win32, it *does* contain the "web plugin" but you can dissable it.

I dissabled the "web plugin" and yet Java still seems to start up perfectly normally for the particular situation that interests me. (which happens to be a certain web page)

So, do you think Tinycore Java will also work correct for me out of the box (in that same situation?).....

As far as i can see, the "web plugin" is never used in the particular instance of my Java interest. (even though it's a web page)

thanks

V.

If you know how and when are you using it, just try.

ahh yes.

if it is 55 megabyte download. Then it was worth asking in the forum first. Will give the "clone" Java
a try out on 4.6 TCL.

The particular web page that interests  is a free "cloud web browser" called "cloud browser" which is inside the "free cloud desktop" from http://www.ispaces.com. It seems to be a very fast "cloud served web browser.

FYI, as noted on another thread, when I run Namoroka with the plug-in from the sun_jre extension I get a security warning from Mozilla. Unfortunately I haven't found another jre extension that works with the websites I visit that require Java. I now leave the plug-in disabled unless I'm going to one of those sites.

I wouldn't happen to know about Namoroka, but in opera you could permit Java in Site Preferences (while globally being deactivated).

sorry, it got me confused again

So TCL has both versions of Java.

1) clone JDK  (open)

2) the original SUNn java.

I need to use the Sunn version because it will have the browser plug in. I tried the OPEN version but it did not open the web pages.

THe reason for me using "cloud browser" is because it is a web browser served up..from the cloud. It already contains Flash and some other plug ins and is real fast and free. THis is advantage when using low power computers like the Rasberry Pi because as long as the Pi can run Java...then you can have FLash websites....... where the Flash work is done remotely in the cloud.

just looking at it now

thanks

V.

Hello

did anybody try this?....

0) A fresh TCL  (sound etc)
1) install a modern browser  (Chrome)
2) download and install Sun Java
3) Go to that webpage and try to get the cloud browser working.

hmmm

Thx

Vince.

I have tried both sun-jre7.tcz and the latest java-installer.tcz, both work except webstart, tested with seamonkey and chromium

here http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,12887.0.html
were found that need add two lines into sun-java initialization script
Code: [Select]
[ -d /usr/lib/mozilla ] || mkdir -p /usr/lib/mozilla
[ -e /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins ] || ln -s /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
in order to sun-java is determined as browser plugin

Hello

thankyou very much for your replies

Abnormis....i hope you are right

You see i did try all this stuff myself with TCL and sun Java. It seemed to work fine with *certain* java web pages........but NOT with the particular web page that interested me.

However, Sun Java and that web page in question, work fine on other platforms.....so

thanks

Vince.
