New Install of Tiny Core Linux - Wifi setup help required
« on: December 13, 2011, 01:45:45 PM »
Hi all,
I am just getting started with Tiny Core Linux, and it boots fine from a USB stick
plugged into my Sony Vaio laptop.  I can install the Arora web browser and wifi.tcz fine
but I am having difficulty connecting to my wifi.

After reading some forum posts I have done the following:
1. created the directory /opt/firmware
2. placed iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode into /opt/firmware (this is the wifi driver firmware that shows when I look in windows)
3. updated /opt/.filetool.lst to contain the line opt.firmware
4. rebooted and reinstalled wifi.tcz

when I run the wifi icon I get the following in a new terminal window:

Found wifi device wlan0
standby for scan of available networks

it then displays:

Select Wifi Network

   ESSID                   Enc      Qual       Channel Type

Enter selection ( 1 - 0 ) or (q)uit:

After reading through some further forum posts, I ran the dmesg command
amongst a lot of information I can see the following:

iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode firmware file req failed: -2
iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: -2
Could not read microcode: -2

Any help gratefully received
Thanks

Remove the files you installed and install the firmware-iwlwifi.tcz extension.
