Booting problems from hard disk ldlinux.c32

I searched for this error message in the forum but nobody else seems to have this problem.

I booted TinyCore minimal "core" and then "coreplus" and ran tc-install to install it on a harddrive.

When I tried booting from the harddrive, I get the message "Failed to load ldlinux.c32".
It is there - I checked.
I did the frugal install with no options.  Any ideas?
