.xinitrc missing [SOLVED]
« on: May 07, 2015, 06:42:25 AM »
I started off a minimal ub-Core-trusty installation with kernel and initrd (recent version of 20150505) plus persistent home and opt on a dedicated ext4-partition. Importing xorg-all, graphics-3.16.6-tinycore and flwm with "-b" flag does boot into an X desktop with full-screen Xterm only. Upon checking, I recognized that '~/.xinitrc' does not exist.

Should it not get created automatically and if so where? It is not in '/etc/skel/' so I presume it should be created from xorg-all. Searching the full '/tmp/tcloop/' for "*init*" does not reveal anything promising.

I just recognized that after copying an old copy of '~/.xinitrc' the desktop does start but there are no  entries in the desktop menu (right-click) and the background is black. So it seems that also '~/.setbackground' and some more is missing. Have I over-looked something obvious?

Got it when comparing the situation to a working installation on a USB-stick. I had forgot to install the Xprogs extension. Sorry, for the stirr-up. I would be less embarrassed if somebody could delete this whole thread. If not, I shall try to not lose my poise nevertheless. :)

*Tries not to laugh*

Muahahaha!

Well, then we all know what might happen if Xprogs isn't included. :)

Not really amused -- just trying to amuse ^^... hope it works...

Anyways, do I get your vote for an installation script for dCore? As even the experienced can make mistakes, cleary!

Thanks! I will publish to my dCore git repo it within an hour, no matter the condition of it! Just an hour of planning and polishing.

I will add Xprogs to the deps of the xorg's since it is always needed.

Xprogs added to xorg-base, which means it will be included in any Xorg import.  I don't know why I did not do that from the start.

That certainly is very helpful.  8) It is good that it is included not only in xorg-all but in every Xorg import.

I have adapted my wiki pages accordingly.

Jason, could you (or somebody) adapt the README so that Xprogs is not mentioned anymore?
