I just read a news article about 40 thousand people being evacuated because of a "temperature rise" and a "bulge" in a 7000 gallon chemical tank.

"The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) issued initial evacuation orders for the area surrounding the Garden Grove facility on Thursday afternoon, after reports of a tank temperature increase."

I heard today that  the tank cracked, and the crack cooled the tank. Self healing.

I read that.  I suspect there's more to the story, but at least it sounds like the danger level has gone down significantly.

television news coverage of the event shows large amounts of contaminated water flowing away from the tank. how much of those chemicals will eventually end up in the municipal water systems? third-party independent laboratory water testing is prohibitively expensive for many of our communities, especially the poorest ones. imhho this is by design(see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture )

the latest mention i found of this region was

not that im claiming causation by correlational fwiw
