Booting issue: inconsistent filesystem structure.

Hi there people,

First post here - been playing around with TCL for a couple of days and have just attempted to go to something more than a live CD (seeing how much I like it), but have hit the following snag: using v1.3 RC2 and the installation guide, I have managed to get everything set up and described. However, upon starting up, I get the following error message:


Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure

Press any key to continue...


Doing this takes me back to the GRUB screen, and so begins the rebooting loop...

From what I understand about the error message, it seems to be about the boot filesystem having errors.

FWIW, the hardware that I'm testing on is pretty standard - an HP VL420, P4 1.8GHz with a 2.5" HD on a 2.5"-3.5" converter (once I get it working, the HD is going into a Libretto 110).

Any ideas?

Grub error 16 usually indicates a file system check is in order.

Thanks - that's what I'd seen before, but I wasn't clear how it applies to TCL or my current situation. It's a clean setup on a freshly formatted hard drive, so I've assumed it wasn't that, and I didn't know whether it could be referring to the frugal setup or not.

Will give that a shot tonight and report back - thanks.

Okay, update time: it hasn't made any difference, unfortunately.

Will now plug the hard drive into the final machine to see if that makes a difference, given that it's currently plugged in with a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter (and the previous link made mention of certain SATA cables making a difference).

EDIT: okay, that made a difference - got past the initial issue, now have the error message:
"not syncing: Out of memory and no killable processes..."

Odd, as the machine has 64MB RAM, so time to do some more reading.

EDIT 2: machine's only reporting 32MB - time to pull it apart. Yay.

EDIT 3: Ah, the fun of old machines... now it's booting fine. Wow, it's quick
