There have been some updates in recent versions which make it even easier. These guides need to be updated.
You can get a file manager by clicking on the file manager icon in the wbar at the bottom. Another option is to open the terminal and type "fluff"
To work as administrator, open the terminal and type "sudo fluff"
For a text editor you can select Editor from the menu. Another option is to open the terminal and type "editor"
To work as administrator, open the terminal and type "sudo editor"
For people not familiar with vi, editor is easier.
If you have an Ext3 filesystem, use grub-0.97-splash.
If you have an Ext4 filesystem, use grub2. Grub-0.97-splash may not work on an Ext4 filesystem.
