chromium issues
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:46:33 AM »
I have found the current build of chromium [8.0.552.231] to be unstable especially when using html5 based or graphics-laden pages  - mrdoob's harmony page for example locks up and is unusable.

This problem does not occur on my other Linux systems which are using the 8.0.552.237 build of chromium so I am assuming this is a bug peculiar to the 231 build.

I appreciate that the maintainers have their work cut out to keep the repository up to date with extensions like chromium which are themselves undergoing frequent updates.

Since I am using tiny core as the base for a cloud-oriented system chromium is rather crucial to it.

I have had a glance at the wiki and note that the creation of extensions is not an entirely straightforward affair. Still I am contemplating the idea of creating an extension from the latest stable release of chromium in the hope of curing the problem.

Any advice/words of wisdom from senior members would be gratefully received here [i.e., things like 'don't do it you fool!' or 'oh yeah here's a script that will do it while you make a cup of tea' etc.]

Just followed the link - I get the picture.

Patience would seem to be the key word here.

Thanks.

I am having trouble with adblock plus - this only happens on my tcl machine. The options page does not load, seems to crash. My win version is 8.0.552.224.

Just as a final note I wonder if in the case of regularly updated apps like chromium whether an easy rollback option should not be maintained.

That is instead of replacing the app in the repository it can be added to keeping the previous version for the purposes of easy rollback [in the event of instability/buggy issues in the new version which in the case of chromium I have found to be quite likely].

This is the Arch way and I have found it to be a convenient option on several occasions. Just a thought.
