Hoe to get Microcore, Xvesa-lite and especially JWM working?
« on: August 20, 2009, 11:18:37 AM »
Hi there,
I managed to remaster microcore to put the Xbase, Xprogs and Xvesa-lite tzps in there, but I cannot find any way to get a jwm.tce either when being outside TC (is there any way to get those packages with a browser?) or inside microcore (it being a read-only system I cannot use tce-wget it seems).
So, where do I get JWM from, so that I can use it in microcore? Does the vesa-lite version help on saving RAM?

Regards,

I believe microcore will use whichever window manager it finds in the /tce folder - be it flwm, jwm, etc

It should work with the latest version of jwm from appbrowser

Once you are booted into the system, tce-wget should work if there is a working Internet connection (afaik).  What do you mean by it's read-only?

If you are remastering and plan on always using jwm, it may be worth integrating the jwm extension in.

I think the xvesa server is the lightest (the one used in TC editions)

Well, what I mean is that when I do a tce-wget jwm.tce wget tells me that it cannot open it, because it is a read-only file system. I don't know, this is what it says, booting the modified ISO (modified as explained in the Wiki) in a VM.

Is there no non native way to get the tce? Like from a different system? With a browser or ftp programme? Because I am also planning to install it on a desktop that only has a smallband connection, so downloading everything there is no option, I have to do it before.

I found the jwm.tce now in the release candidates folder, but now I get:
"Could not open display"

Any ideas?

Right, found out, that I need to change the tce_dir to download and install jwm.tce. This worked, but I still get the no display error.

Most likely something odd got set during your remaster.

As for the display error, it probably depends on which X server you are using (there is no "xvesa-lite" one).

i do not think i was ready for you to put words in quotation marks. i'll think about what you really want when you put your search in quotes and try to return something that makes sense.
