I removed Firefox and Sylpheed and am using Seamonkey with its built-in email.
That way there is no need for modifying network setup except when using appbrowser.
Both Firefox and Seamonkey connect without any problem. Sylpheed needed nameserver 8.8.8.8 to connect.
