From rereading the python thread, the push was to rename 2.6 stuff with the -2.6 suffix, allowing either the -2.7 suffix or no suffix at all mean the extension is a python 2.7 one. Thus allowing the 2.7 stuff to drop their suffixes during updates by attrition.
Here is a list of the 2.7 named extensions. Though there is not a pressing technical reason to rename them, each time one is renamed they will break existing tce directories. Perhaps one last batch renaming, this time the 2.7 stuff, would only break tce directories one big time instead of many little times and will put this python thing behind us once and for all. If there are no objections, I can rename the extensions to not having the suffix.
