(solved) Touchpad page scrolling
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:00:30 AM »
Hi!

Touchpad page scrolling won't work for neither of my two laptops. Is there a way to fix this besides installing Xorg and synaptics?

regards

Not really, under Xvesa it emulates a normal mouse, to use touchpad features you do need Xorg and the synaptics driver.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Tapping (instead of left-clicking) does work however.

BTW, same applies in gpm.

@uggla: The following boot option (added during the boot process in GRUB or placed in the file that defines the boot options in GRUB) works well in my eeePC.  I don't know if it will help your laptops.

psmouse.proto=imps

Thanks! It works great!  :)

@ MikeLockmoore & uggla

Could you please specify what exactly does work in addition with "psmouse.proto=imps" which wouldn't work without?
Thanks.

Without:
Dragging the finger along the right side of the touchpad moves the cursor.

With:
Dragging the finger along the right side of the touchpad doesn't move the cursor but scrolls the page.

I do not note any difference, with or without "psmouse.proto=imps", tapping works in either case, scrolling in neither >:(

(PS/2 Synaptics TouchPad)

@ MikeLockmoore & uggla:
Do you perhaps refer to Xorg?
I only tried with Xvesa and gpm

No, I wasn't referring to Xorg but Xvesa. The psmouse.proto=imps boot option only worked on one of my two laptops. The one for which it works has an Elantech touchpad which, I think, also is the case with MikeLockmoores eeePC.
