It should work with Opera just by installing both extensions - what kind of problems do you see?

As a VM - I don't really understand what you mean, do you want to run compiled java apps from the command line?

I've installed java and all the materials are in /usr/local/java/*  none of the bit's are in the path and when I try to run java it doesn't run.  I can link java to /usr/local/bin and try to run it but when I try to ad /usr/local/java/lib/i386 to the library path it doesn't work so I get a missing library error.

I am using the tcz version of opera so I'll try it again with the tcz and see if that works.

--edit--

Tried loading the tce of opera then the java tce and it doesn't work. :(

Just tested using Opera and Java .tce's - everything works. Could you have an older version of the extension(s)? Do you use a mirror?

Loading a tce over a tcz might not work, did you uninstall the java tcz first?

running "/usr/local/java/bin/java -version" also works for me, could you post the library error?

Okay so I rebooted and it does work I just have to use the full source.  Also java applets work but they don't show up in the about::plugins tab.
