problems building vmplayer modules
« on: May 27, 2010, 05:00:13 PM »
I would need some guidance building a vmware player extension.
Base: tinycore 2.11
vmplayer install file: VMware-Player-2.5.2-156735.i386.bundle

Process for creating a vmplayer extension so far:
1) installed the following extensions:
bash, binutils, coreutils, gcc, linux-headers-2.6.29.1-tinycore
2) copied over from debian5 the directories /etc/rc{0..6}.d and /etc/rcS.d as well as /etc/rc.local
because vmware player demands runlevels.
3) run :
bash VMware-Player-2.5.2-156735.i386.bundle
This seemingly installed vmplayer with success.
4) when 1st running vmplayer, it complains about the lack of modules for the kernel. It then attempts to locate kernel headers and fails. I try to point it to directory /usr/src/linux installed from the linux headers extension but receive the following complaint from vmplayer:
"C header files matching your running kernel were not found.  Refer to your distribution's documentation for installation instructions."

Help would be apreciated

Best regards,

Jose
