wget error downloading: md5.txt does not exist

Recently I am having trouble downloading (OnDemand in tc-2.7) any extensions. I get an error
"Can't open xxxxx.md5.txt: Permission denied"
"Unknown problem MD5sum xxxx.md5.txt no such file exists."

I can install same app just fine. It happens with all apps I have tried the past couple of days, not sure when the problem started. So I have to install first and then manually move it to /tce/optional.

Any ideas?

Check the permissions of the optional directory.
it should be drwxr-xr-x 2 tc staff.
