Display Too Dark
« on: November 30, 2009, 10:18:52 AM »
I am trying to run Tinycore on an older PC and the display is too dark. I have installed TC to a hard drive and I can move the hard drive to a newer system and it is fine but on that one specific model it is very dark. The PC is a Compaq EVO D300 with an Intel 815E chipset. I want to run this on ~40 of these machines. What can I do to fix this issue.

I had this experience with the same chipset.  My solution was to install xorg from the appbrowser.

This seemed to be able to display correctly.

This resulted in a larger install, but that was ok for my purposes.

Someone on IRC yesterday was seeing the same problem with an 810 chipset.  They were able to solve the brightness issue by reducing the resolution in Xvesa.  You can run xsetup.sh and then restart X to test different resolutions and bitdepth combos

These come up from time to time. It's because the BIOS gives too little ram to the Intel graphics. There might be an option for that; if turned up, Xvesa should function fine. If not, Xorg with the Intel driver can resize the used memory.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
