Using additional mirrors
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:16:36 AM »
Other people have commented that they cannot download using Appbrowser.

I just downloaded the latest release. The official site was so slow it was not worth using. I successfully downloaded using another mirror.

I assume the official site is very busy.

There are a number of other mirrors hosting Tiny Core.

I suggest a there be a list of these somewhere. Also which Country each are hosted in, so people can choose the nearest one.

I suggest the Cpanel be modified, so it contains a list of mirrors (with Country), and one can be selected from the list.

It would be even better if this was put on Appbrowser instead of Cpanel, so more people find it.
Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

I too have requested for alternate mirrors in one of my posts !
You have written here exactly what was in my mind - thanks !

It would be more welcome - if some of the mirrors have ftp links !

Thanks !

I have spare storage and bandwidth to setup a HTML mirror in a professianal Europen Data Center. FTP can be offered also with password, no anonymous access.

Mirror is up and running.

Use following /opt/.tcrc settings:

Quote
Mirror: tc.hasix.org/2.x
Protocol: http
Repository: tcz

If you try, give me a feedback.

bmarkus, keep up the good work.

Be aware, there are a number of mirrors already there. New ones are being started from time to time.

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/
http://ftp.vim.org/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/

There are others. I don't know all of them.

It is just that a number of people have found the official mirror very slow, or not working at all.

I think there should be a list of mirrors somewhere, with the country they are hosted in, so people can choose one near them.

People can change the mirror used by the appbrowser. For those with less understanding, it would be nice if it was easier. It would be nice if there was a list to select from, with the country they are hosted in.

There are other issues to consider. Some mirrors may be updated quickly when new things are added to the official site. Others may be updated less often. The best ones could be listed.

I started another subject asking people to post any mirrors they know.

bmarkus, do you plan to have your mirror up on a long term basis, and keep it constantly updated? Do we include it in the list?

There are others. If it is too much work, you don't need to.

As hosting resources are there, I'm just scripting the update. As soon as it is ready it works automatically. WEB interface is also 50% ready, so it will come. You can add it to the list a bit later when it goes into production.
