Extensions server problem?
« on: December 09, 2009, 01:29:31 PM »
This morning around 1 AM Pacific time I attempted to do an extensions upgrade. The process was very slow and I ended up aborting it. This left my USB stick missing MPlayer, getflash, and several gtk2 extensions. When I tried manually downloading these a single extension would download and then the download would halt with a wget or http error. Eventually I was able to complete downloading and now it looks like everything works on my box.

Just wondering if anyone else had similar problems. Probably a mistake to interrupt an extensions upgrade, but possibly it was running slow because of the server glitches. Hopefully these were temporary.

Others have had similar problems.

I think the server is very busy sometimes.

You can use another mirror.

To download extensions from a different mirror. Open the Control Panel. Click "Select Mirror." Type in a different mirror. Click "OK."

Another option is to edit /opt/.tcrc using a Root Text Editor. Use the same format as the existing.

Extensions may be downloaded from various internet sites. Examples include:

The official Tiny Core host

North Carolina, U.S.A.

ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/

Some other mirrors are:

Greece

http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/tinycorelinux/

ftp://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/tinycorelinux/

Netherlands

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/

http://ftp.vim.org/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/

Be aware, when something is added or updated on the official site, there may be some time before it appears on the other mirrors.
Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

Thanks Guy.

Tried update extensions again last night. The process completed quickly with no updates or additional extensions needed.
