Tablet PCs, touchscreens, and handwriting recognition?
« on: October 18, 2009, 09:40:54 PM »
Has anybody been working on using TinyCore to power a tablet pc, particularly older ones?

I have a couple of older Fujitsu tablets.  These things go pretty cheap on eBay, almost always with the hard drive missing.  With a CF-to-IDE adapter, I can potentially see lots of uses for these things if one could get a good, lightweight Linux like TinyCore to run them.  Me, I really just want to use mine as an oversized PDA.

I haven't started working on it yet, which is why I wanted to see if anybody else has tried so far, and can point me in the direction of necessary drivers and other stuff I may not have thought of.

I figure the biggest stumbling blocks will be driving the touchscreen, and handwriting recognition.  The latter can be worked-around by using an onscreen keyboard, of course.

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

I did that with a Lifebook B2130. I didn't get to handwriting, as I don't really like that method of input.

The driver needed depends on the manufacturer of the screen. Usually it works as a mouse without any drivers, including in Xvesa.

We have xvkbd, an on-screen keyboard, available as an extension.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
