real screenshots
« on: September 10, 2009, 07:25:20 AM »
For practical work often a real screenshot utility is needed.

Not only catching the sreen as it is and dumping the raw picture into an image file.

But a full screenshot programm as explained by Byfield:
http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/57772

An utitily offering:
  • shots sizable by mouse frame
  • adding outer frame
  • adding framed text fields
  • adding arrows

Mayby Shutter (earlier called GScrot)
http://shutter-project.org/
would be a viable solution.

I think Shutter is gs based. Would a screenshot programm like Shutter consume too much resources?

Is there already an extension containing such a screenshot program?

I don't know of one that has has the requirements you have, but if you simply want either full screen or you want to specify X/Y coordinates the built in one to TinyCore (2.3) is ok for basic stuff. Either access via the Tools menu or call via command line/script to /usr/bin/imlib2_grab

sure, clach04, it's possible to calculate coordinates, and it's possible to type command lines, and it's possible to import the result into gimp, and it's possible to create a text layer there, and it's possible to create arrow bruches theres, and it's possible to export the result as 'screenshot information'.

But when finished maybe an hour is gone and you've forgotten longtime what purpose that screenshot was planned for.

What's needed for practical work is a tool which makes the creation of an informative screenshot a five seconds job.

So it would be great if shutter could be made available as extension.

@ JoXo009
hello,

I  can suggest 'shutterbug'  included in the  FOXTOOLKIT programs extension;  very light and  easy.
To  annotate  I guess you still need an  external program  (tobe verfied).

regards.
