Wifi firmware extensions in the repos?
« on: September 11, 2009, 07:18:49 AM »
Hi there,

I need some opinions on a topic I was discussing in the forum lately.
It is about packing wifi firmwares, together with their non-free (but freely distributable) licenses.

For the newer intel drivers, there is this license: http://intellinuxwireless.org/LICENSE.iwlwifi-ucode
For the ralink drivers, the license included in their zip packages is exactly the same (same textx).

The only problem is the older Intel cards having this license: http://intellinuxwireless.org/LICENSE.ipw2200-fw

But for the others, what do you think? Can we pack this and put it in the repos?

Regards,
