Make sound work in piCore64.

Hi al TC users!

Now I only use TC on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 but I can't get the sound to work. I have looked around but I haven't found a HOWTO or similar when it comes to the sound. I can get a video to work but without sound. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi meo
What steps did you take to enable sound?
Did you install  alsa.tcz ?
Did you install  alsa-utils.tcz ?
Do you have speakers connected and turned on?

Command line command:
Can you test easy with.
Code: [Select]
speaker-test -c 2 -t wav
And if you using raspberry pi, you have three ways of outputting sound, to the 3.5mm jack, and hdmi and bluetooth via bluetoothd & bluealsa

You can also use
Code: [Select]
aplay -L
Or
Code: [Select]
aplay -l
To see what devices you can output to.

And you have to change the config.txt to support sound.

I have powered speakers connected to the audio jack on my hdmi display - all I have to do is load alsa and I have sound from the Xorg-3d gui.

As I recall, if I connect the powered speakers to the RPi audio jack directly, I get sound from the console prompt after loading alsa.

Hello everybody!

Thanks for all the comments and advice to check the source of the sound. I have a peculiar setup. I have a portable HDMI 15.6" screen where the speakers are inside the screen. It's late here now and I am the only one awake so I wont make any trials now that has to wait. I have done many different trials but the only thing that has come out of it is that I can play videos in firefox trying both ffmpeg and mpv and alsa naturally. Sofar just video but no sound. I remember the GUI crashed on me on several occasions. I will continue trying and taking notes so I remember what I have tried.

I think Firefox now requires pulsaudio (or apulse) for sound.

Try this:

tce-load -wi alsa-utils
speaker-test [-Ddefault:1] -c2 -t wav -l1

When you run the  speaker-test command, you should hear
"Front Left" , "Front Right"  coming from your speakers.
You should see something similar to this in your terminal:

speaker-test 1.1.5

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels

If you don't hear any audio with the speaker-test command, none of
those programs will have audio either.

The speaker-test command tells you whether ALSA is working or not.

The firefox-ESR extensions use alsa, but the firefox extensions created by the download script have used pulseaudio for a while now.
