No file explorer?
« on: December 22, 2025, 02:05:41 PM »
New CorePlus  installation: Is there really no file explorer pre-installed?
I've now installed Nautilus.
Thanks.

It started OK a couple of times and now it won't start.
I removed it, reinstalled it, still wouldn't start.
So ... which file explorer works well with FLWM? Thank you.

Hi Onktebong
... Is there really no file explorer pre-installed? ...
Of course not. The point of the ISOs is not to provide a system
that's ready to go and fulfill you needs. It's to get you to a GUI
(or command line) so you can then install the packages
that interest you. You don't need a file explorer for that.

The TC16 x86 CorePlus ISO is almost 290 Mbytes. Over 200 Mbytes
of that is firmware, drivers, and utilities for wireless support. Plus
there are 7 window managers included.

The point is, the ISOs don't get bloated with items not need to get
up and running.

Without more information, we can't help you.

If you open a terminal and enter:
Code: [Select]
nautilus --new-windowdoes it report any errors?

Fluff or emelfm
Just a heads-up about emelfm - I still use emelfm2 as my goto file manager but it's getting a little outdated and some things are broken lately.  In particular, I have to go into its config and remove the "back" (previous directory) icons from the tool bars because even passing the mouse over them crashes emelfm2.  I don't know if the same is true of emelfm or emelfm3.  (on Tiny Core 15.x and 16.x, both  x86_64)
core 16.0 x86_64

I appreciate that. I was just surprised that out of 200 MB you get 7 window managers but no file manager, which certainly is a useful tool, and MC (Midnight Commander) is only 780 kB.
But once I got over that, and with the help of you good people in this forum, I managed to install it myself no problem.

I've reinstalled Nautilus.
When I click on the icon in wbar nothing happens, the program won't start.
Now I enter this command in the terminal:
Code: [Select]
nautilusReply: ''nautilus: error while loading shared libraries: libEGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory''
Code: [Select]
nautilus --new-windowReply: ''same''

Try installing  libEGL.tcz

Computer says no (unfortunately).
I'll now uninstall Nautilus and use mc or emelfm2 or one of the other great suggestions. Thank you.
