Struggling to try Tiny Core Linux
« on: Today at 05:41:45 AM »
As per title - I downloaded the Core Plus image, used Balena Etcher to burn to a usb stick. Tried it on my Desktop computer and again on my Thinkpad T430. Neither machine recognised the usb as a bootable device. Ok so perhaps not burnt correctly. So same again with a different usb stick, but same results. Tried again with the x64 version of CorePlus. Now receiving a message from Balena Etcher and I quote - "Missing partition table It looks like this is not a bootable image. The image does not appear to contain a partition table, and might not be recognized (believe they mean recognised) or bootable by your device".

Never experienced this before and as others have successfully installed the product previously, there is something awry at my end.

Could someone please enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong?

Are you using Balena Etcher on a linux, mac or windows machine?

Do you have a cd/dvd drive with which you could burn the iso to cd/dvd and boot it?

Thank you for your time and patience in replying.

I used Balena Etcher on one of my laptops, a Thinkpad X240 to burn the usb, using Linux Mint XFCE as the operating system. You've really staggered me by suggesting the very old fashioned concept of burning a cd, but if that's what it takes to test this distribution...... I'm sure that somewhere in the Linux storage there is an external dvd writer somewhere; however on second thought my Thinkpad T430 still has it's dvd writer, so I could always load up a live disk environment (Ubuntu, Mint or similar) and burn a cd. Now where were those old blank cd's???

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.

If you are using a linux machine, you can make a bootable usb stick following this:

https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,19364.0.html

alternatively, if you can burn the CorePlus iso to cd/dvd and boot it, you can use tc-install/tc-install-GUI to create a bootable usb stick
