newbie to tinycore - install problem
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:08:30 AM »
If there is a thread answering my problem please point me in the direction. I used a live Tinycore CD to enter a computer which has a 850mb hard drive, formatted and with no other OS on it. When following the Install instructions on this site I get to the point of clicking on cfdisk.tce and then I get the following message:
"an error occurred. try later"
I have tried various buttons on the panel but nothing allows me to proceed beyond this point of error.
I haven't found any explanation what this error could be so I don't know how to try and solve it.
Other info that may be useful in trying to help me.
The computer will be connected to a windows 2003 server on a domain and all the computers are DHCP connected including mine which runs Kubuntu.
The reason I'm trying to install Tinycore is eventually to have this computer be a "thinclient" using linux (tinycore) to boot and he connecting to the terminal server, But first I have to be able to install Tinycore :)
Any help appreciated.
TIA
Errol

You may find the server or internet in the area is overloaded.

I have just tried to access it and it has been going very slowly, and stopping.

You could try again later.

There are also other sites where files can be downloaded from. You may have to search this forum to find out how to change the setting to use the other sites with the appbrowser.

ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/
http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/
http://ftp.vim.org/os/Linux/distr/tinycorelinux/
ftp://sunsite.icm.edu.pl/pub/Linux/sunsite.unc.edu/distributions/tinycorelinux/

I am successfully downloading files from one of the other sites.

For partitioning and formatting drives, you can download and use a live CD, and have that part done before installing Tiny Core.

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
http://partedmagic.com/

You can also download files from one of the other sites and Install Tiny Core without being connected to the Internet.

Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

Thanks Guy.
I'm trying to install without internet based on the info you gave. Will let the forum know what happens.
