rt2860 wireless module location
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:10:49 PM »
I cannot seem to find the rt2860sta wireless module anywhere. It was reference in Jan 2008 as being a tce, but it doesn't seem to be in the tce list. I also looked inside the wireless modules but see no reference there either.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

That was for TC 1.x - which _may_ work on 2.x

Rt2860 is a module with the 2.6.29 kernel, but for some reason I took the 1.x tce and tweaked it to compile rt2860sta for 2.x. unfortunately I can't remember why and don't have access to my laptop just now (am using phone in a boat on the river thames!)

I can give you more details when I return to dry land in a few days...

Thanks for the replies.

There are several references to Asus eeePCs in the forum. Since I'm using a Asus 1000 eeePC, I thought the wireless would just work if I followed the instructions in the wiki.

If memory serves, mcnalu, I believe I saw a post where you were using a 1000HE. Maybe the eeePCs don't all use the same wireless module. Or maybe the rt2X00 module should work?

I have a 1000h and I have to use rt2860. An lspci -v should confirm your wireless chip.

The module isn't in the wireless-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tcem file which is why I had to compile it.

mcnalu:
lspci -v shows a RaLink RT2860 network controller. I found the latest Linux driver on the Ralink site.  Any suggestions to avoid compilation problems?

If I find a moment, I'll submit an rt2860sta.tcem, but in the meantime you're in luck as I'm a borderline-obsessive note-taker... see the attachment :)

(on the notes: there's a 2.x linux-headers extension update)
