« on: November 15, 2022, 11:50:57 AM »
Hello Forum

Learning about the perplexity's of life here........

is this article below talking in "China Yuan" or "Taiwan yen" or usa dollars?

........85.5 billion........ to develop the KIRIN microchip  for smartphones?

https://turbofuture.com/industrial/There-are-Three-Reasons-Why-Smartphone-Companies-Do-Not-Make-Their-Own-Chips

.....apparently it took a team of 700 engineers 10 years to complete the KIRIN microchip design     ( architecture chip design).   ( for smartphones)

Gosh

Think it's Tauwan YUAN above

since the "Tape - out" of a bleeding edge smartphone chip
is about 1 billion dollars

i think the whole life cycle to reality (10 years) could
be about 3  billion dollars.  KIRIN

that fudzilla link should have been cleaned-up to remove the excess tracking coding/garbage before posting
(not to mention that the linked article is over three years old and uses statistics from the years before that)

nevertheless, the economies of scale are quite impressive
(probably less impressive if all the myriad of externalities were brought back into the project)

speaking of externalities, how about the apple ewaste alone:

Yes Gadget42

There is enormous waste in life.

There is Also enormous risk in life.

Underwriters are required "en-mass" for such huge risks
of the devs in this post.

These risks can reach eye watering proportions and are simply never
going to be covered.

You do get "points of no return" in devs where-upon the dev just turns into a
damage limitation exercise........"Video recording" is a case in point.

Thx
C.
