Is it possible to have OnDemand extensions in Core?

In Core, extensions that are set to "OnDemand" don't work; ie:

• vifm -> returns "Terminal error"
• nano -> returns "Too many errors from stdin"

In Tiny Core, from aterm and from the console after a Return to prompt, work fine.
Booting Tiny Core with the "text" boot code, nano returns: "sh: you need to specify whom to kill".

It seems the ondemand script doesn't work in Core; or do I miss something?
