Hi ethelbertmagnus
If your laptop has a CD drive and you have access to another computer, make a bootable CD and see if your laptop
can boot from it. That would allow you to mount the hard drive and copy files from it.

Also, post the exact error message you get when boot fails, if you get one.

hELLO forum,

It  COULD be  somehow that the Laptop won't boot
since some setting is incompatible with your booting medium.

it may be DOA machine? (possibly the battery gone, or bios is corrupt)

it could be anything........causing boot failure........errors and boot media failure.

-----------------------------------------------

i don't know about backup(s)  ......it's a global design flaw of ALL  domicile computers.
(they don't offer real time "parallel" mirrored activity  .....on seperate real physical extra "back up drive" ......(Operating System and all mirrored.....everything mirrored)

Buying new hardware, and learning from your mistakes...... gives a fresh angle.

Maybe a nice new tablet computer? .......THANKFULLY it will automatically back-up to  your free ONLINE storage areas

.......yes,  DATA recovery is possible.   (  a whole can of worms is opened ....$$$ too )

As a guideline, you can determine your purpose
in the scenario. Then expend necessary reasonable effort towards those ends.

.........Best wishes

C

I see you are new like me helbertmagnus, so a few questions
Could you elaborate on the problem a bit?

Did  you run tinycore before rebooting?
What is the os you usually use?
Is there any messages on the screen at all?
What kind of media do you boot from? Ex; I removed my dead harddisk and only run from a usbstick.

Take out the battery, power cord for a while. If it is a really old laptop (computer) the bios battery might be dead. Replacing it has helped me two times.
