Failed in waitforx

I have been playing around for a few weeks and tried a frugal install of tinycore to hard drive on a test laptop. I have used the CorePlus iso to boot. during the boot process, I get the above error.
I found these to threads relating to the problem:

Neither lead to a solution.

I tried the USB stick on an other laptop and it boots and works just fine.
I tried all menu options on both laptops. All work on the test laptop. On the second laptop, the first 7 menu entries all produce the waitforX error.

Any suggestions on how to fix this error.

What  type of log files are generated and how can I find them?

I tried to install extensions from the command line but can't find them lateron or they do not work. I struggle with the busybox commands. Quite a few either work not at all or sork different than what I'm used to. Is there a tutorial for the commands implemented in TinyCore? (I found some relating to Ubuntu and others, but each seems to refer to customized versions of busybox)

Does the default X server (Xvesa) works on your machine in CD mode ?

Sounds like a yes for the test laptop, but a no the second one.

If Xvesa doesn't work for you, remove Xvesa from your onboot.lst and pick one of the other X servers.

Code: [Select]
tce-load -wi Xfbdev
tce-load -wi Xorg-7.7

IIRC, the "net-mode" tc-install.sh script only installs the base system (vmlinuz + core.gz)

Thanks for your reply.
I played around with bootcodes. Added xsetup and laptop. This works for all desktops and all resolution.

I  installed to hard drive from USB. All worked.

Thanks
