Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Incorrect ownership and permissions can cause confusion. I started learning Linux using
Debian. If I tried executing a command I didn't have permission to run, it would return a  command not found  message.
Drove me a little crazy until I figured out what was going on.

That is why I preferred xenialpup64.

But I am trying to make the lightest kodi system there is, and dcore seems like it might do the job.
