No installed apps listed under IceWM>Programs
« on: May 27, 2017, 11:29:19 PM »
I have installed a few apps using the Apps program. A few have appeared as icons on the wbar, but neither those nor other installed apps show under the IceWM>Programs menu.

I have:
xterm
Programs
Toolbar
Windows
Help
Settings
Logout

Toolbar, Windows, Settings, and Logout have sub-menus/selections, but Programs has nothing but a 1/2" long by 1/16" thick bar/menu stub.

Hi dgpenny,
providing info about the version and architecture might help to help you.
Also, not sure what this means

Are you getting an empty menu?
Download a copy and keep it handy: Core book ;)

Nothing is being created in ~/.icewm (for example by icewm_makemenu), but I don't know why...

Version is 8.0
System is Celeron 600 MHz

Yes, empty programs menu.

Hello

By architecture we mean 32bit, or 64bit  (either core64 or corepure64)??

:)

You can try another Window manager..  there are many WM's available

32 bit.

I have looked into others but they do not appear in the apps repository.
Menumaker for example does show in the tcz repository but not in the Apps repository.
Others do not appear in either.

Hi  dgpenny

OMG!!!  @!@

OK so TC-8  x86 repo search revealed these "Window managers":
Code: [Select]
tce - Tiny Core Extension browser

         1. dwm-doc.tcz
         2. dwm.tcz
         3. fluxbox-locale.tcz
         4. fluxbox.tcz
         5. flwm.tcz
         6. flwm_topside.tcz
         7. grub4dos.tcz
         8. hackedbox-doc.tcz
         9. hackedbox-locale.tcz
        10. hackedbox.tcz
        11. i3.tcz
        12. icewm.tcz
        13. jwm.tcz
        14. openbox-dev.tcz
        15. openbox-doc.tcz

Enter selection ( 1 - 21 ) or (q)uit, (n)ext, (p)revious: :
(I don't know why it lists grub4dos..?)

However the most commonly used window managers are all present i the repo:
openbox
hackedbox
fluxbox
dwm
flwm_topside
jwm
icewm

I'm of course using my favorite HackedBox window manager
 8)

Update:  I just tried i3 but it's hard to recommend when it appears to be something missing something (like a window manager)...

hello

I just downloaded, installed and ran these Window Managers from the tc8 x86 repo without issue.

HackedBox
OpenBox
FluxBox
flwm_topside
jwm

However, I don't know if I could ever get used to dwm??
i3 appears to be broken..
and icewm also appears to be broken..

icewm is not really broken, it's just that one or more of the scripts that populates the programs menu is not working.

(I don't know why it lists grub4dos..?)

I guess the "Windows" tag is responsible for the result.

Title:     grub4dos.tcz
Tags: GRUB bootloader use Microsoft Windows bootmanager

There are 2 more WM for x86, by the way.
pekwm, wmfs2
I never use pekwm and I know little about wmfs2.
