Is using rootfs.gz and modules.gz as initrd equivalent to using core.gz?

After some looking (i.e. running diff on find on the two's directory structures) I noticed that the core.gz had something different from the other two: the folder /lib/modules/4.2.9-tinycore/kernel/drivers/i2c
