What can my x64TC do ?
« on: November 06, 2016, 04:56:15 PM »
I'm reading/writing in Win8.1 x64, while examining and 'thinking'
linux. It's very confusing: "he said she said he said"

The following <lists and contains the *.tcz <extensions>:-
2016-10-26  03:01 PM               377 copy2fs.lst
2016-10-26  03:01 PM               377 onboot.lst
2016-10-26  03:01 PM    <DIR>          optional
2016-10-26  03:01 PM               378 xbase.lst

So eg: 86 016 libjpeg-turbo.tcz makes me wonder what usefull
purpose has <jpeg-turbo> ?

If the hardware was to <go on-line : wired> I would expect
to see <pppd> in the list of *.tcz. Or ?

Apparently X's mouse activated menu-tree of apps doesn't cover
all that is available in the present <repository>: listed above?

From what I've read so far, I expect the hardware to be able to
go on-line [if I had wired-inet, instead of WiFi], and fetch
eg. a NNTP client. If so, I'd need: the URL\name.tcz of the app
and instructions for installing the *.tcz/S ?

Where are the instructions telling where the instructions are?

I've got & read:
 http://tinycorelinux.net/
 http://tinycorelinux.net/faq.html
 http://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/

But first I need a bigger font for TC-X. Where HOW?

Re font: mulinux of the late 90's, installed from a 1M7 fd0;
was ash-based and had eg. a combined mail & News client with
effective <ASCII ART> and a brilliant menu-based help and
tutorial system.

==TIA.

Welcome

First and most important reading material for new Tinycore users is the Book.  you can download it for free here http://tinycorelinux.net/book.html you'll need a PDF reader to view it

Chris,

just before trying out the latest developments, like TC64, and complaining with cross-posts to different lists (you know where), try to get a feeling for standard TinyCore and digest the TinyCore book: http://tinycorelinux.net/corebook.pdf

Since you prefer plain ASCII, you could try to find your way there: https://github.com/tinycorelinux/corebook
(see also: http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,16669.msg99565.html#msg99565)
