Keyboard and Touchpad don't work (Acer E 15)
« on: July 18, 2016, 10:54:40 PM »
Hello,

My keyboard and touchpad don't work on my laptop when booting to the desktop.

I'm booting from a USB drive made I made on another machine using CorePure64-7.2.

FWIW I have the same issue with Alpine Linux even with xf86-input-evdev.

Also, I am able to CTRL ALT F1 to tty from the desktop or CTRL ALT BACKSPACE to kill it, which is odd since no other keystrokes appear to work.
Perhaps the keyboard does work and just not the synaptics pad.

I installed usbutils, xf86-input-synaptics, and xf86-input-evdev.

Thanks,

Sharkey

I meant using CorePlus-current not CorePure64-7.2, sorry.

CorePlus uses Xvesa - if you want to use xf86-input-synaptics then you need to load the Xorg-7.7 extension

There is a huge thread on Linux Mint about these machines, they all appear to be broken in various ways. Workarounds listed there are use/don't use acer_wmi, toggle bios settings on the touchpad and xhci, etc.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
