Core is command line  only until you install the X components.
Please read the book and wiki.

I read the Wiki and installed the X stuff. FLWM works fine. I can't figure out how to get the others ones working.

If you only load one window manager, that one will run.
If you load more than one, the last one loaded will be used unless you use the desktop= boot option.
