If you mean a persistent  /root  directory, no. Maybe you could add any additions/modifications of  /root  to your backup?

   thanks Rich

   i dont want to make a backup because its simpler more flexible and faster to use persistent home

   what i will do is have a folder for root settings in home that i can just copy over as needed that should work fine until i can think of a better way

Root really should not have much that needs saving.
You can add specific files to the backup.
I have the following line in my /opt/.filetool.lst.

root/.config/mc
