Video driver problem

Hello

When I changed my graphics resolution to 1280x1024, which is native resolution for my monitor, and I know my hardware supports as Windows worked with the resolution

But it says input signal out of range

Is there a driver I can install for the graphics that could fix this problem ?
I'm using onboard ATI Rage XL graphics.

If you're using Xvesa, it could be that you need to explicitly state a lower colour depth  - does xsetup.sh give a choice for the 1280x1024 resolution?

You could also try Xorg-7.7 and xf86-video-ati.

I tried installing the mach64 driver (as it is old card) but ran out of space (i've only got a 32MB drive)
On windows , I can select 1280x1024x24

in xetup.sh, I had selected 1280x1024x24, I will try a lower colour depth

Tce-load -wi Xfbdev

Now after reboot it says Failed in waitforX and is at a command line

Is there anything else I need to do to install?

I added vga=769 and it works but then i added vga=775 and i get signal out of range again...

It is picking a scan or clock rate that your display does not support.
Have you tried Xorg instead of Xvesa?

Is there any way to change the clock rate ? I have also tried different display and it has similar error (change resolution to/input signal out of range)

How would I install Xorg ?

I only have a 32MB disk.

OK, what about if I bought a 8GB USB flash drive -  would I be able to install to that ? Does the speed of the USB drive matter ?

I need to install linux onto 70+ Thin clients (HP Compaq T5500)

Because the Windows CE 5 on them has no updates and doesn't support latest RDP protocol.


Because they have 128MB ram

Maybe it is a better idea to PXE boot a 60MB image of Tiny core linux ?

I PXE boot T5700s, but they have 1 or 2 G of RAM.  128M is slicing it pretty thin.

Shooting in the dark, but check that the Xorg and driver extension names are listed in onboot.lst.

Thanks but they are already in there - also I installed debian onto a USB stick, and it says input signal out of range as well. During the boot process.
