no persistence, not saving anything
« on: August 19, 2015, 03:15:23 PM »
I would love to use Tiny Core, but I've already spent 2 entire days trying to get anything to save settings.
I've watched the videos, read all wikis, and read persistence for dummies, but nothing is being saved.

I want to keep everything on the USB, within /tce/optional and any other folder in USB.
I've managed to get firefox in onboot.lst and it can be loaded manually, but no saving settings here either.
I would expect firefox would at least be loaded and ready on startup with icon in wbar.

When I use waitusb=5 or 10 or even 20, it seems to ignore /tce folder on usb, then when its started I get stuck at command prompt, and xsetup and startx are shown as commands not found.

Anyone have ideas?

I've been booting to default choice, but have also tried option for waitusb.

tc@box:~$ showbootcodes
initrd=/ubninit loglevel=3 cde BOOT_IMAGE=/ubnkern

tc@box:~$ cat /opt/.filetool.lst
opt
home
tc@box:~$

cde is for CD drives only.  It prevents persistence as CDs are read-only.

UNETBOOTIN is not compatible with TC, so it is not a big suprise.

Please read FAQ.

my best guess:

Quote
initrd=/ubninit loglevel=3 cde BOOT_IMAGE=/ubnkern

from that, either or both of:

Quote
initrd=/ubninit

Quote
BOOT_IMAGE=/ubnkern

more specific: ubn(init,kern)

yes?

Yes.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
