new Xvesa, modmap and Euro sym
« on: March 18, 2015, 04:30:09 AM »
Noticed that in 6.1 there is a new Xvesa version.
I applied the  sleep 3 && xmodmap -e "clear Mod4" -e "add Mod5 = Mode_switch" &
line in .xsession and still can't seem to get <alt gr>e to put out the Euro sym.
Is there an update magic cantation (for a fr keyboard)?

Also, has anybody got a Logitech DiNovo Mediapad working as a numeric keypad working?
(part of the Logitech DiNovo Keyboard/Mouse/Medipad trio). It only seems to work in application
(Nav) mode and not in numeric keypad mode.

caps lock doesn't seem to work either.   Is there an equivalent of xkbwatch for when only Xvesa is installed?
pm: my locale is fr_FR.UTF-8 and is kmap=azerty/fr-pc is specified at boot time. Perhaps an omission in the keymap file?

You should be using the latin9 keymap if you want the euro symbol. No xmodmap needed.

I tested azerty/fr-latin9 and it produces the euro symbol fine, caps lock also works. Caps lock also worked in azerty/fr-pc.

no dice here. not with our standard logitech internet pro keyboards or with my DiNovo either.
the whole row above azerty (and under the function keys) don't give numbers with shift.
Also, '²' gives '½'.  And what should be the euro sym is '¤'

I remember now why we use fr-pc since a while as fr-latin9 is completely FUBAR

It's curious, as I got numbers with shift too. Perhaps your keyboards are somehow special?

Anyway, you should use Xorg if you need extensive keymaps or special keyboards.

well... to be fair, they are logitech;-)

once the Xorg respin is done I should be able to get back into proper operation and can look at updating the other thin clients as well.  Thanks anyway.
