[SOLVED] My Monitor is not used full screen.
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:16:49 PM »
Sorry that I do not know how to describe this problem in one sentence.

I have a APU based thin client, with DVI-D output to a FullHD monitor.

All these works fine with Ubuntu Precise.

Today I switched to TCL 4.x. And found that Xorg is not shown fullly. There is a black edge around the content.

Then I noticed that the console (tty) is not full. Or the BIOS interface.

What should I do without compiling a default kernel?

Use xrandr to change your screen resolution.

Use xrandr to change your screen resolution.

Um, I do not think it is a resolution thing. The OSD menu of hardware indicated a FullHD resolution. And I tried to use Xvesa to specify the resolution, there still was the black border. Seems like the system misrecognized the display hardware and used wrong "display size".

You said you were using Xorg.
Make sure you load the drivers for your display. Then use xrandr if necessary.

Sorry for the confusion. I want to use Xorg, but to debug this, I tried both Xorg and Xvesa.

Just noticed that there is no ATI drivers. Thank you.

Hi magicloud

Just noticed that there is no ATI drivers.
If you are running  Xorg-7.5.tcz  they are built in. For  Xorg-7.6.tcz  there is  xf86-video-ati.tcz.
Some of these may also be of some interest:
ati-catalyst-locale.tcz
ati-catalyst.tcz
ati-fglrx-dev.tcz
ati-fglrx-kernel-source.tcz
ati-fglrx.tcz

Sounds like your monitor has overscan by default. Check in the monitor OSD if you can disable it.

The Xorg ati driver can also disable it with an xrandr command.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
