forget it, i have found an alternative:

https://imo.im

free web messaging with integration of skype contact and messaging functionalities; coupled with tokbox, you get rid of skype; only thinks needed: flash (last version), which we have in tc.

One more security risk, you are sharing ALL of your IM passwords to a 3rd-party provider.

1.3.0.53 works
for videocall u can use http://www.tokbox.com/ or www.meebo.com

Shit I shudn't promote closed source programs  :'(

The sound doesn't seem to work using OSS with libasound, although it lists the devices
correctly in sound options and shows no errors.  Are you using ALSA?

regarding sharing im pass to a third party provider, i don't get your mind; it is already the case if you are using skype client, or if you have a web mail. for me, the possibility to use skype im and basic functionalities without the skype client is really good because you can log in everywhere on every machine (a real alternative when i am at my office where i can't install skype client on my computer); i was using tokbox yesterday in order to see what i can get out of it, and the quality of communication is not too bad (excellent video quality, sound is ok)

In most cases, those clients would be connecting directly to the provider, whereas these other sites are managed by other parties.  So I think it's a fair warning for those who are reading this thread.
